Word of the Day – Hoop

  1. A frisbee trick that involves creating a hoop or circle by touching the fingertips together and extending the elbows. Then a disc in flight travels through the hoop. The disc in not touched by the player.
  2. Sometimes used to describe any class of tricks that involve interacting with the disc without touching it.

Jam Canaria is taking place on the beach on the island of Gran Canaria. This is the first Freestyle event to take place in Spain. Being hosted the weekend after Frisbeer, Jam Canaria has attracted many of the same top players. With Jam Canaria being on the beach, it will demand a different skill set from the indoor venue of Frisbeer. The wind will be a factor. Click here to tune in and find out how the competitors adjust and to see some heinous beach freestyle.

Poll: Challenger Division

Frisbeer Cup 2017 featured a Challenger pairs division. Think of it like an amature division. It allows players / teams who would have been seeded near the bottom in open pairs, to play against their peers for a chance a first place. Divisions like this are often talked about as a way to inspire players with developing skills to attend and compete in a tournament.

Drag Set

Ryan Young demonstrates the downwind drag set. The drag set it used to set a partner who is downwind for a catch. It is very commonly used in Freestyle Frisbee choreography as well as in a mob-op.

Start by giving yourself alot of spin. Set the disc up flat. Do an under-the-leg pull and the let the disc slide to the rim. Look at your target. Swoop your arm down and then outwards to the target as the disc pivots to the perfect catch angle. Typically this will be 45 degrees with the nose of the disc towards you.
